The principle of thermoelectric cooling is not new, either overall or for PC systems, so there were already corresponding concepts for using Peltier elements in PCs years ago. A temperature difference is generated by current flow in a Peltier element, which allows heat to be dissipated. The manufacturer Unitek now offers a new dock for the Steam Deck, which uses thermoelectric cooling.

According to the manufacturer, it should cool by 20°C in just five minutes. However, a fan is required to dissipate the waste heat from the warm side of the Peltier element – accordingly, the Cooling Dock Pro is not silent. The manufacturer does not directly quantify the thermal cooling capacity, but there is already one Review of the Cooling Dock Pro in which the cooling performance was quite convincing.

The model is equipped with numerous outputs, whereby the Steam Deck is connected to the dock via a single cable as usual. The dock itself has an HDMI output and a DisplayPort for image output, and the dock supports USB PD with a power of 100 watts. Connection to a wired network via Gigabit Ethernet is possible. There are also several USB ports of type A and type C.

The Cooling Dock Pro can be pre-ordered now at a price of 119 dollars. The Cooling Dock is available for $89, which only has an HDMI 2.0 instead of HDMI 2.1 output and does not have a DisplayPort at all. The Pro version will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022, the cooling deck will not be delivered before 2023.
